Hong Kyoungtack began his series of “still life” paintings in the 1990s when he was in his third year of university, and he realized that our lives and the things around us are similar in that they are transient, so he started painting objects made of plastic. “Still life with cups” is an early work that depicts objects that can be found everywhere, but are often overlooked. These still lifes were later subdivided into pens, pencils, books, etc, and are currently produced in the ‘Pen’ and ‘Library’ series, which constitute Hong’s artistic world.
